Nag Tibba Trek- Things to Remember

Nag Tibba Trek popularly known as ‘Mountain of the Serpent’. It is located at the foothills of Garhwal Himalayan Region at the height of 3048 meters in the Uttarakhand State of India.

This Nag Tibba Trek starts from Pantwari village taking via Mussoorie hill station. From this village the distance of the Trek is at 8km toward its peak. While passing through this path trekkers have to walk through ancient forest lushes with oak and deodar trees. The trek will be a memory to capture for the nature lovers.

This trek offers its visitor’s varieties of experience, from view of majestic snow covered mountains to camping under the open sky where light of stars shining falls on the ground and experience of walking in the forests lush with greenery.

Best Time to visit the trek:

To visit Nag Tibba trek the best time is during month of summer, from April-June and during winter, from October-December. For those travelers want to experience, snowfall during trekking, in Chopta, the best month is from starting of January until March.

·         During Summer: At the time of Summer Nag Tibba the weather is pleasant and salubrious. The views of the Himalayas are there to experience from distance only. The cool breeze blowing there provides comfort while trekking. It would be better to carry light woolen clothes as the nights are experienced in cool weather.

·         During Monsoon: Having a cup of tea and enjoying the beauty of snow-capped mountains of Nag Tibba along with rainfall occurring all around is wonderful experience. The lush greenery of the mountain is irresistible. However, due to rainfall, there might be landslides and blockage of roads may occur for hours, despite it will be all fun. Do not forget to carry raincoat along with you.

·         During Winter: Looking for a peaceful trip, having serenity then Nag Tibba Trek is the best option to visit during winter. During this time snowfall occurs, which is an incomparable vision than any other thing. It feels like you are standing on heaven of earth. As the winters in Nag Tibba are freezing, so take woolen clothes along.

Itinerary for the Trek:

·         Day1- Delhi-Dehradun- Mussoorie

·         Day 2 – Mussoorie – Pantwari – Nag Tibba

·         3 Day – Nag Tibba

·         Day 4 – Nag Tibba – Devalsari

·         Day 5 – Devalsari – Thatyur – Dehradun- Delhi

Mode of Accommodation:

Going to Nag Tibba, must remember the way to accommodate here is camping. Trekkers have to stay in the base camps at night. Carry your own equipments need for camping or collect it from the trek operators.  There are few guesthouses available too at Devalsari and Pantwari. Whatever route you take for trekking, you can choose between these two places to stay at guesthouse as per your budget.

Nag Tibba also has one Forest Rest House at the place where base camp is located. One can also stay here by taking permission from the Mussoorie Forest Office. The forest building has four-way intersection- first at Pantwari, second at Taal and on Deolsari village, third on the way to Jhandi Top, and last one at Digon Thatch.

Food Guide:

There is neither food stall available at Nag Tibba nor even any tea stall. Trekkers have to take their own food supply. If you are planning to go for trekking with your group, then it is advisable to take own cook who will prepare your meal for you at night camp. Also try to take some packed food along with you when you are going for the trek.

Certain Things to remember before starting the Trek:

·         As Nag Tibba Trek is a weekend trek, so try to take only basic and necessary items along with you. Carrying of heavy items may lead to tiredness, and especially while you do hiking on the terrains.

·         As, because the trek is short don’ think it to be that much easy. Try to prepare yourself a week before the date of your departure.

·         On the other hand, if you are visiting Nag Tibba Trek during winter then do not forget to take warm clothes as temperature falls here drastically. Try to carry all three down jacket, warmer and fleece.
